Vectorworks hosted a tweet-up at this year?s USITT annual conference. A tweet-up is like a meet-up, except for people who use twitter, the increasingly popular and a bit peculiar social media tool where people post updates of 140 characters or less.

See, it?s not uncommon for people with shared interests around an industry to follow each other on twitter. Equally, it?s not uncommon for twitterers (tweeps) who ?follow? each other, only to know their followers virtually. So, during a professional conference, such as USITT, where people travel from throughout the country to attend, the opportunity to get to meet people face-to-face sparks a lot of interest.

That?s why Nemetschek North America, the makers of Vectorworks Spotlight, decided to host a tweet-up at USITT. ?The idea to host the tweet-up actually came from our community of users,? says Jessie Newburn, public relations gal at Vectorworks. ?A number of our software users kindly ? and, in good fun, a bit insistently ? asked us to host the event.?

Going full steam ahead with the event was an easy decision for Nemetschek N.A. ?As a developers of CAD software, our customers tend to be tech-savvy, smart and forward-leaning,? says Stewart Rom, VP of Sales and Marketing at the company. ?Hosting a tweet-up seemed like just the thing to do.?

The tweet-up was designed mostly as an opportunity for students who twitter to connect with their peers and to network with more experienced professionals and educators in their field. Close to 50 people came through, where they were offered a healthy lunch, good coffee, free wireless (yay!), and a place to relax, connect and, of course, tweet.
