Layers disappear on zooming

Recommended Posts

I receive updated construction drawings in dwg regularly, to use them as a trace reference i import them into their own file in VW with a specific name, i then create a referenced layer viewport on an empty layer with them in my own project, this enables me to update the external file regularly while keeping all the settings i have in my own file (and keeping my file much smaller with less classes). Problem is when i zoom in closer than say 1000% while in my active layer and the referenced layer greyed (or lately showing but at 10% opacity which i find gives better graphics) the referenced layer disappears, i can still find snap points but don't see the lines? Any ideas, is the referenced file too large? This doesn't happen in other files with the same setup?!
