Preset Dim. Offset Scripts

Hello,

I'm looking to create what I would imagine could be a simple script, or group of scripts, that will offset lines at preset dimensions, 1", 2", 4", 5.5", 6", 12", 24", 30", 36", etc. each script a preset dimension offset. With the dimension being written into the script. The idea being to click a line or rectangle and then the offset script to duplicate/offset the line, no dimension input needed. If a keyboard shortcut could be assigned, that much the better. Unfortunately I am not familiar with scripting or programing languages. I would appreciate any assistance or direction anyone could offer. Thanks so much in advance.
