Is it possible to copy a saved view from one file to another?

Recommended Posts

Unfortunately, it is not possible to copy a saved view between files using the standard methods.

It might be possible to write a vectorscript that would write a file that contained the information necessary to reconstruct the view and then a separate script that would read in the file and make a new saved view with the same settings.

While technically possible, there are questions about numerous edge cases. What do you do about Layers that don't exist in the new file? Create them, ignore them? What about Classes? What about Layers and Classes that do exist in the new file, but are not in the original file? Ignore them? Make them visible? Make them invisible?

No easy answers on this one.

Same thing applies to being able to Copy/Paste a Sheet Layer Viewport into another file.

I have before had a saved view I wanted to use in another drawing so I saved that whole drawing as a new one and deleted what was not needed. The classes I ignored to a point as some I could reuse for the new drawing.
