Bruce Kieffer
I'm trying to draw oriel windows, at least that's the name given to them by the window installer. They are double hung windows where the sashes are not equal heights. My lower sashes are 2/3 the height of the entire window, and the upper sashes are 1/3. Is there a VW setting to change a double hung window to look like mine? Quote Link to comment
Jeffrey W Ouellette
http://architecture.about.com/library/blgloss-oriel.htm http://www.answers.com/topic/cottage-window-1 We don't currently support "cottage" style double-hung sashes as parameters. You could take a Window PIO, though, with all the correct overall dimensions and turn it into a custom symbol by Ungrouping it and the editing the 3D geometry to what you need. A custom 3D symbol can be used inside the Window PIO. This would be a good candidate for this. Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
Jeffrey, Thanks. I'd say my windows are cottage style. Quote Link to comment
Henry Finch
When I need to do a cottage window I've made a PIO window with correct frame size and casings but no sash. I then make 3D sash inside it and make it all a symbol. Haven't done it recently. There might have been some issues of how it went in the wall. (Used 3D locus). If you want I could send an example. If you don't use 3D all the time it might be too slow. I can make objects like this fairly fast. Henry Finch, Architect Waban MA Mac 1.8GHz dual G5, MacOSX10.4.11, VWA12.51 Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
Henry, Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not an architect, so I'm new to all of the walls and symbols stuff. I did kind of think of your solution on my own last night as I figured out how to make a cut out in a wall using a symbol that I created from an extrusion. I am very familiar with creating 3D objects, so I could create the window I need, but thanks for the offer. Quote Link to comment
