Cloud Hidden
Having trouble with textures on a square column. There's no way I've found to specify how the texture is applied, such as we can with the Mapping dialog on other objects. The result is that the texture is proper on the front and back of the column, but not on the sides. Know what I mean? Any advice? Thanks. Quote Link to comment

gmm18
I know what you mean...It does seem to be a problem. In this image I created a simple column. First in the OIP Render tab I set the texture to Brick, got this, with the shaft brick going vertical, no attribute mapping to correct it. Then, using the new VW2009 "Get Finishes/Classes" settings, set shaft to a finish class, and set that class with a brick texture. In this one I set the OIP Render tab to a concrete texture, that is where the capitol is getting its texture. This is what you get. No way of correcting this as far as I can tell it is a bug. Lastly, a work-around that seems to work...but not quite: In Resource Browser, duplicate the brick texture I am working with. Edit this duplicate, and rotate the image 90?. Now assign this "Rotated" Brick texture as the OIP Render tab texture. Use finishes for the base and capitol, trouble is now they don't render properly...see how the concrete texture is not applied correctly? Hmm. In conclusion... So...the "Get Finishes/Classes" thing does not work right, and if you are going to set the texture using just the OIP Render tab you need to edit the texture resource itself since there is no attribute mapping available for the Column PIO. Therefore: Better off using the Wall tool to make your columns. You get the advantage of being able to easily map textures, and just create Classes to handle the bases and capitols (also just little wall objects). Here is an example using the wall tool: Quote Link to comment
Guest Wes Gardner
Has this been submitted to Bug Submit? If not, it would be good to include your examples... Thanks Edited February 9, 2009 by Wes Gardner Quote Link to comment
Cloud Hidden
GMM, you captured it perfectly, thank you. The second example is the one I encountered that led me to pose the question because, for all I knew, I was just missing something. [Feel free to ignore: Yeah, I know I can roll my own, but at some point that defeats the purpose of objects that are convenient to modify. For example, I'm using 6 columns. I show the client one way, and they may want to try a different shaft, base, capital, taper, and then I'd have to start from scratch rather than just click an option, etc, etc. Gotta create my own columns because the column object isn't texturing right, gotta create my own windows because they don't render right in round walls, etc. That really cuts into the work that gets done in a given day. So does writing rants. ] Quote Link to comment
gScott
not sure using walls is going to help, unless they've fixed the texture going to hell at the ends of the walls as it does in VW12.5.... Quote Link to comment
gmm18
Gideon, yes the wall texturing is much better in 2009. You can control all sides...check out the OIP options: The last image in the series of examples I posted above is done with the wall tool. Textures are going on just fine. But I know what you are talking about in 12.5 Quote Link to comment
