blackisleboy2
Hi all, This is my first post here. I'm starting to get to grips with the 3D functions of Vectorworks, and am struggling a little bit! One of the things I'm trying to do is model a simple hollow wine glass and bottle. I want them both to have a thickness and be hollow inside. I've tried using the sweep function on a profile and then using the shell solid tool, but this doesn't work. Can anyone shed any light on what I'm doing wrong? Thanks very much in advance! Graham Quote Link to comment
GWS
Graham I've not really found the shell solid tool all that helpful but try this method for the wine glass (see attachment). Apologies for the bad shape. The locus is at the base and it is 360 degree sweep of the profile on the left. The render is the standard Blue Glass from render works. Guy Quote Link to comment
michaelk
Graham You're in for hours of fun! You're on the right track. A sweep is probably the easiest way. Draw 1/2 the profile of a wine glass If you don't need the glass to have thickness draw something like profile no thickness. (See attached) If you do want the glass to have thickness, draw something like profile with thickess. (See attached) After you sweep it, it will look something like after sweep. (See attached) When you add a glass texture you will be able to see the difference between with and without thickness. The glass laying down has no thickness. blackisleboy2
Guy & Michael, Thanks very much for your replies. I'm amazed how swiftly and how helpful they are! Unfortunately I'm using VW11, so can't open Guy's attachment, but I've now managed to get it work. Thanks again guys - this was driving me crazy, along with a few other issues, so no doubt I'll be posting again soon..... Quote Link to comment
