cvp
Hello i try to insert the dimensions with the"constrained linear dimension",but they don't rotate when i change the view... whow could i made they rotate similar to the view, help needed... Thanks in advance... Kris Quote Link to comment
GWS
The dimensioning tool is 2D so wont change with relation to your view. Quote Link to comment
michaelk
Kris Do you mean you want the dimension object to be present in a 3d view? Like this? Or do you mean the dimension is not "locking" on to a 2D object? michaelk Quote Link to comment
cvp
hi Michael yes, what i want is what you have in your file... can you help with that thanks Kris Quote Link to comment
michaelk
Kris It's tricky and often not worth the effort, but on small projects it can be nice. I'm using VW2009, but I think this also works on 2008. Maybe even 12.5... There are other ways of doing it, but my current favorite quick-and-dirty method is to use Design Layer Viewports. Here's how: 1. Create the 3D object 2. Add dimensions. 3. Create a DLVP on a separate design layer. Make sure "Project 2D Objects" is selected. 4. Set the layer view and rendering mode for the layer with the DLVP 5. All your dimension objects will be "laying on the floor". 6. If you need a dimension higher up, but still parallel to the "floor", that dimension object has to be in its own layer, with a Z value that will raise it up to the desired height. 7. For dimension objects not parallel to the "floor" you have to totally fake it. Turn off "Show Dim Value" and enter the correct value in the Leader field. I'll attach a really simple example. It's easier to understand it once you see the layer structure. HTH michaelk Quote Link to comment

Cris with no H
If you don't need to edit the dimension after you've placed it, you could just Convert to NURBS, then give the new group a Z value as needed. Cris Dopher Quote Link to comment
michaelk
Chris I don't think a dimension object can be converted to a NURBS. Can it? michaelk Quote Link to comment
GWS
It can if you ungroup it and convert the text to poyline Quote Link to comment
