timmer
I know this is probably VW 101 but what are the differences in layers and classes. I get a .dwg from a producer of the ballroom layout with all sorts of classes ( rigging, chandlier, soffet, lighting, stage, chairs, etc...) I create a layers ie truss, lights, lights floor, curtain etc... When I export back to dwg this all goes into a layer titled none. thanks tim Quote Link to comment
Jim_Allen
Layers are like sheets of drawings classes allow you to assign elements of different layers to classes, which you then can control as a group across layers to assign things like colors, textures, visibility. They work independtly of layers. not sure what is happening when you export Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
More: DESIGN layers are containers that hold 2d and 3d drawing data. SHEET layers are like a sheet of vellum (or paper) onto which you can place objects (specifically, but not limited to, viewports) and then print. CLASSES are categories which can be used either for setting class-discreet attributes, or custom visibilities. A given object or objects must be in a layer and assigned to a class. The ability to interweave layers and classes together is one of VectorWorks greatest powers.... BTW, there is whole section on these in the manual... Quote Link to comment
johndpalmer_ld
When you export to DWG you have to choose to export either classes or layers to the DWG layers. You can choose to export VW layers to different DWG files. Because VW has both classes and layers, if you know that you are going to be exporting to DWG, you should choose how you will organize your drawing. Take care, John Quote Link to comment
