layers and classes

Recommended Posts

I know this is probably VW 101 but what are the differences in layers and classes.

I get a .dwg from a producer of the ballroom layout with all sorts of classes ( rigging, chandlier, soffet, lighting, stage, chairs, etc...)

I create a layers ie truss, lights, lights floor, curtain etc...

When I export back to dwg this all goes into a layer titled none.

More: DESIGN layers are containers that hold 2d and 3d drawing data. SHEET layers are like a sheet of vellum (or paper) onto which you can place objects (specifically, but not limited to, viewports) and then print. CLASSES are categories which can be used either for setting class-discreet attributes, or custom visibilities. A given object or objects must be in a layer and assigned to a class. The ability to interweave layers and classes together is one of VectorWorks greatest powers.... BTW, there is whole section on these in the manual...
