Bart Rammeloo
you need (a) a rotational axis (b) a profile © a rail or path All in 3D, preferably NURBS (a) and (b) should lie in the same plane, and © should be perpendicular to (a). Launch the command, click (a), click (b), click ©. And there you are Cheers, BaRa Quote Link to comment
propstuff
quote: you need (a) a rotational axis (b) a profile © a rail or path well I haven't had time to try the various new rail options with the 3D tools, so I'll put my hand up for being dumb. If the tool is revolving the profile around the rotational axis; what is the path doing? N. Quote Link to comment

Bart Rammeloo
@mike46: I have a Dutch version. Can't tell you where to find it in the English manual. Sorry @propstuff: I could write a lengthy explanation, but the fastest way to understand the difference is to try it. Cheers, BaRa Quote Link to comment
Biplab
Please visit www.3dpowerpack.com to see examples and tutorials of revolve with rail. The main difference with simple revolution is that, in simple revolution, the path along which the profile rotates about the axis is always circular. In revolve with rail, the profile can rotate about an axis and at the same time follow a non-circular rail curve. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Dave Donley Posted February 20, 2004 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted February 20, 2004 Hi Mike46: An example of where revolve with rail is useful would be to make a pumpkin shape. You could do this by creating each segment and adding the segments together, but if you draw one half of the side view of the pumpkin, a vertical segment, and a curved path that looks like the top view of the pumpkin, the revolve with rail command can create the shape in one shot.
