Log homes

Any advice out there regarding the creation of rendered perspectives of log homes? Where can I get textures and how would you produce the corner effect of one log crossing over the other.

i would extrude the logs and stack them manually, but that is probably going to be too much work unless you are working on a simple box. let's see what the experts come up with...

No expert here, but I can't see it being at all realistic with textures, the corners being the problem. Creating the logs in 3D, making like lengths a symbol would be the approach I would use.

Build it with the simplest 3d forms you can get away with. If you use an extruded (log profile) shape it is fairly easy to stretch, duplicate, rotate, whatever. Just like "lincoln logs" (remember those?). A word of caution: I would nail the design down pretty close (using walls and roofs, etc) before creating the logs. I would also use those original walls for plans (probably in their own class) and use the logs (again in their own class) for sections, elevation, etc. Have fun ;-)

here is a simple sample, like peter said, finalize the design before adding the logs. I have done some timber frames this way, lots of time making all the extrusions, but the up side is the joint details are all there
