Black curtains

I can guess at the reason.

Back in the day (like VW9 or 10) curtain objects used to always be black and all the people with red grand drapes came up with crazy work arounds to make them change to other colors.

Somewhere around 12 or 2008 they took the color away from the curtain object and made it selectable with the color palette.

I've never used a velour texture, because I've never zoomed in close enough to a drape in a rendering for it to matter, but I'm sure there are velour textures out there.

I've found that using 80 or 90% black is close enough. At 100% black they suck up more light than any real drape I've ever seen.
