Drawing Organisation and SLVPs

We're trying to brainstorm how best to set our drawing file system up, but can't quite get our head around SLVPs.

Our theory was as follows:-

Floor plans are created in their own drawing files, which are then referenced into other files to create elevations etc.

Details are also drawn separately and referenced into the relevant drawing.

One main "container" drawing file is created which basically serves as a "Sheet Set", referencing all the external plans and elevations etc to create the entire set of drawings. We had planned for this file to have nothing except a Cover Sheet design layer and a lot of SLVPs from the external plan/elevation drawings etc.

...This was all going lovely until we realised we can't reference external documents into SLVPs. Why is this - and what practices to other offices use?

We usually have a good five to ten people working on the same project and so cannot rely on the single-drawing-containing-everything theory, unless there's something we're missing.

Any help appreciated...

As I've written previously, being able to reference an external file into an SLVP would be a great improvement for Vectorworks.

The only advice I can offer is to come up with a "workaround" to the software's limitation.

One cumbersome way to do it is to reference everything into a design layer first, then create an SLVP to the designlayer containing the DLVP.
