Create New Document

Recommended Posts

Since upgrading from 8.5.1 to 8.5.2, I now get a dialoge when creating a new document. It is asking me whether I want to create a blank document or use a template. Someone thought this was an enhancement, but for me it just adds an unwanted and unnecessary step since the old way, choosing new for a blank document and double clicking on a template icon for a pre configured document worked fine and was simpler.

Is there a way to by pass this dialogue?

thanks,

Hey Donald,

Another thing you can do is create a blank document, save it as a template, put it in your templates folder with a file name chronologically first alphabetically.

Now when you open a new document, whether you choose "blank document" or a "document template", you will get the same thing.

(the first time you open a template, the list is defaulted to the alphabetically first file in the templates folder)

For that matter, you can just change the file names of any templates in the templates folder so that the templates you use regularly are at the top of the templates list.(I don't use the AEC setup assistant template either, which is alphabetically first as the program comes.)

On Mac or Windows, just rename your Templates folder or delete it. I just renamed mine VW-Templates. If you do this, when you create new you automatically get a blank based on the VectorWorks Default (with .mcd on Windows) fine in the VectorWorks folder, just like when you start the program without double-clicking a document.
