Andrew Mac
Is it possible for two or more people to work o one file and have the file continually update. How do others work with having multiple people work on one file Quote Link to comment
Yancka
Only one person works with a file at a time for us. In cases when we must work more than 1 person with a file one person makes a copy and after he/she is done the new stuff is copied in place in the "original" file. I've looked at Workgroup Referencing feature but don't see how it would do for us. I also would like to know how others are doing and if they are using Workgroup Referencing an how it works for them. Christiaan
We use Workgroup Referencing and while we've found this has improved the co-ordination of our drawings immensely our drawing production time has plummeted due to bugs relating to circular referencing. In order to have two people working on the production of one drawing you might set up a file for each person with different parts of the drawing each and then reference those files into a master file. The problem with this simple approach is that you can't easily co-ordinate the two parts of the drawing other than looking at the master file, so the natural thing to do is to create circular references; referencing each drawing into the other, so each person can see what the other is doing. Unfortunately although v2008 supports circular referencing there's a horrible bug?yet to be nailed down?that causes hideous performance problems (especially over a network) and the only way to deal with this is to periodically purge the files using a convoluted process of shifting files around, breaking references, purging and more shifting of files, etc. 1 Quote Link to comment
