LyleBrowning
I've created a map of the USA with state and county outlines, and added a set of layers for each prehistoric pottery type I've got with the aim of doing this on a national basis showing pottery type distributions. Each county polygon is copied into the layer if prehistoric pottery is found there and given a distinct color fill. Is there a way to export the layer names to a file? Thanks in advance. Jonathan Pickup
you need some sort of script. if you had used classes, i have a script that will export class names, but it does not export layers Quote Link to comment
gmm18
It is actually very easy to export the Layer names using worksheets. The trick is you have to have a single object on each layer that you can call up in the worksheet. 1. Add a single 2D Locus to each Design Layer. You can put them in a separate class so you can turn them off. (I picked 2D Locuses since they don't print, but they do show up on your screen). 2. Create a new worksheet: 3. In the worksheet, right click on a row #, change it to a Database. 4. Right click on the row # again, select "Set Criteria." Set it to "Type is 2D Locus." 5. In a Database Header cell, type "=L" 6. Now you have a list of your Design Layers. Before exporting, turn off Database Headers by clicking on the little "down arrow." 7. Export. With the worksheet still open, select File>Export>Worksheet. 8. Done. Open in Excel or other spreadsheet application. 9. If you create new Design Layers in your VW file, just be sure to add a single 2D Locus in each layer. Then open the worksheet, hit "recalculate" under the down arrow. Then Export again to quickly get your revised list. Edited August 3, 2008 by gmm18 Quote Link to comment
