Landmark-Custom Plant Tags

Recommended Posts

Do you mean that you created a new plant definition but the tag displays incorrectly when you place the plant symbol? Not sure why your custom tag does not show in subsequent uses of the new symbol, but here are some ideas:

Make sure the new/custom plant is selected in the plant field of the Place Plant tool.

Read VW help for Create Plant Definition. Make a new plant definition. Key in custom tag info in Common Name field (default -other tag info options in Default Prefs tab of Edit Plant Definition dialog), and select that new plant from the plant list whenever you want one with the tag you created in the new plant def.

Or click your custom plant with the pick-up eyedropper in the Place Plant tool bar and click elsewhere in the drawing to place copies.

Or dupe/drag or copy/paste the plant with the custom tag.

Or select the plant on the drawing and set the OIP tag display to None and create a text box for the plant tag. Group the text box with the plant graphic and dupe/drag or copy/paste the group as needed.

OK, I see what you mean now:

1. A custom Tag Type created in the Plant Definition/ Default Prefs pane does not save as an additional type in the pulldown list of Tag Types.

2. There is no option or VW Help direction to add tags to the default tag type list.

Looks like a Wish List Forum item to me. I suggest you post it there. VW should not have such limited tag type options.

No doubt you have discovered the obvious work arounds, but sooo tedious:

1. Create a generic plant with the desired custom tag type. Duplicate it as needed for new plant defs. The custom tag type will stay put when you assign new name and plant def info from the plant database via the Get Plant Data pane.

2. Create a small text file with the text for the custom tag, and copy/paste it as needed into tag option of existing plant defs.

3. Dbl click any plant already assigned the custom tag. Copy the text from its tag type menu in default prefs and paste into the custom tag type field of new plant def.

4. Keep a separate VW file as a library of all the custom tagged plants. Pick plants from this file and copy/paste them into design files as needed.

Others may have more elegant solutions.
