Custom Selection vs Custom Modification

What is the difference between Custom Selection and Custom Modification?

They both seem to operate the same: > enter the criteria > click OK objects are selected and info for all shown in OIP.

They are very similar,

but one difference is that

Custom Selection will select all of the objects, but if you want to

do a batch modification to those items you need to remember to

change your Layer settings to "Show/Snap/Modify Others" in order

to do it all at once. I tend to work with Layers on "Show/Snap Others."

So I prefer using Custom Modification for this reason since it

will work across all Layers without the need to change any settings.

A small difference, but perhaps a justification for it.
