99% Processor Usage Win 98

I just installed Norton Utilities on my P3 800 with 256 Mb ram. Part of the Utilites installed are a series of system monitors which are placed on the desk top. I almost removed them but decided to leave them for awhile and I noticed that whenever VW is the active window it displays 99% processor usage continuously. VW is the only application that behaves this way. I suppose its been doing this all along, but it just dosent seem right. Does anyone know anything about this.

There was a post in April, but no solution was given and that situation was under Windows NT.

Same thing occurs under Win2000. The Task Manager generally reports 100% CPU usage whenever VW is running, even without a file open. And, yes it is the only program I have that behaves that way. I'm including Photoshop, Illustrator, 3DStudioMax, Maya, and Lightwave in that statement. Have no clue why this is, but common sense would tell you that there's no way that VW is using 100% of the CPU's power, because I can still open and use other programs while it is running. VW is, in general, a pretty sluggish program. I'd be curious to see whether or not the CPU usage is different with a machine running VW only and not a VW/RW bundle. Let's hope our statements generate some NNA feedback on this topic, even if it is only for curiosity's sake.

I also use VW and RW on win 2000 and have never seen this happened.

I contacted tech support and this is what they told me on this issue. Sounds like its not a real problem.

" Your processor is constantly

being cycled and used by Windows and active programs. I.e., let's say that

"A" program uses 30% of your processor, 70% is being cycled by Windows.

VectorWorks comes from a Mac environment where the program cycles rather

than the O/S, therefore when VectorWorks is in the background Windows is

cycling, when it is active VectorWorks will utilize all unused processor

usage. When another program becomes active, VectorWorks turns the processor

handling back to Windows to manage. Again, this is just a remnant of the

Mac history of VectorWorks."
