CS1
In VW you start off with I think around 10-15 dash styles for lines, this is great. The problem is when you get near the end of the job if you import say a manufacturers detail or some object that has a new line style it adds it randomly to the list of dash styles (not to the bottom of the list) which means all the dash styles change through out the drawing. With text when you import something I think you get the oppertunity to change say all "times new roman text" to say "arial text". Is ther somehting Im missing with dash styles? Quote Link to comment
Jonathan Pickup
never import an dxf/DWG file into an existing drawing. Quote Link to comment
IanH
Use design layer viewports referencing a separate external file that only contains the imported file. For any data source that is unlikely to change, ie survey data whether or not it was created in VW or a professional survery, I always create a standalone file that is then referenced in. CS1
Thats cool I understand that, I normally import a DXF or DWG to a blank document, turn all to 0.18 line thickness, all to black, all to solid line and all to no fill, then copy to my working file. The problems occurs when you copy something from say an old job file. You may need a detail of a footing that was done on a previous job, if that older job had an extra dash style it is somtimes not obvious that you have imported a new dash style until further down the track which makes an "undo" not possible. It seems a liitle time consuming if every time you copy info from one job file to another you have to turn every line to solid etc before pasting. If there was some kind of option when you import new things into a drawing that you had the option to "convert all new dash styles to solid" or something. Quote Link to comment
CS1
IanH how do you reference an external file with a VP? I get a message saying somthing like "unable to insert VP from another file" Quote Link to comment
gmm18
Unfortunately you can't copy and paste VP's from file to file, but you can reference in DLVP's of external files... In the file you want to bring in a referenced viewport into: View->Create Viewport-> Destination must be a Design Layer, this enables the "Select Source" button, Select "External Document" the rest is all settings, adjusting your visible layers & classes, etc. Quote Link to comment
