Window in curved wall

I want to have a 180? curved glass block wall around a stair landing. Neither WinDoor or the WindowWall(curved) tool can do it, or at least I couldn't get either to work.

Has anybody drawn such a wall/window, and how did you do it?

Use the Wall tool. Just create a class with left and right textures of glass block. For a curved wall, you could create two textures - one for the "exterior" side with a wider block pattern and one for the "interior" side with a narrower block pattern.

Where might I find a glass block texture? The glass/metals/plastics library doesn't have any - is there another source? An ordinary glass texture of course looks great, but I need the pattern and part translucency of blocks.

Or draw a block with glass texture, symbolize it and build your wall with dupes of the symbol. Fool around with the transparency and bump options to make the texture look like the style of block in your spec.

Try this. Don't ask where I got it, I don't remember. Over the last 15 years I've built up quite a collection of misc. images to use for rendering.

It looks like the WindowWall(curved) tool, although it's a little strange being in the Interior menu. Maybe it got upgraded for v2008, because in v12.5 the number of transoms is limited to 3. Looks better, but not exactly like glass blocks.

Maarten it must be a another one of your local customisation tools because it is not possible to produce anything like what your image shows with the curved window wall tool. It looks very nice.

Like the curved window wall tool should be. Able to have:

- Equally spaced vertical mullions.

- Equally spaced horizontal members.

- Glass faceting that matches the framing.

- Both one and two sheets of glass (one on each face).

The tool creates a group from a 2D shape where you can set width, height and spacing for the glass blocks and how many rows.

Not too difficult to program.

I had to do the same kind of wall. I made 3d blocks, gave them a glass texture and built the wall using the Duplicate Array tool. It worked fine, however it takes FOREVER to render in FQ. All of those transparent glass faces creates a lot of computing.

I did not even try to address the grout.

Must make a Symbol of the Block including the grout edges prior to DupArray. This will greatly reduce the rendering times.
