Stewart Holbrook
I'm running several copies of VW 8.52 on G3's and G4's running OS 9.04 and 8.6. Whenever we save a Vectorworks file, it looses it's icon and just becomes a blank document. If you doubleclick an Vw File to open it, it tries to open Minicad 7.03, even when Minicad is not present on the Mac. When you do a Get info on a VW file it says it's a MiniCad file!. When using VW 8.0 we don't have this problem. Has anyone else experienced these sort of problems? Quote Link to comment
Guest
It sounds as though you need to rebuild your desktop database. The Finder stores information about which type goes with which application, which icon to use, etc., in the desktop database. From time to time, the information in this database can get a little stale. Rebuilding the desktop database should fix the problem. One way to rebuild the desktop database is to restart your machine and then hold down the command and option keys until the Finder starts up and asks you whether you'd like to rebuild the desktop database. I learned recently that it's not even necessary to restart your whole computer -- just quit all running applications, and then force-quit the Finder by pressing command-option-escape. After answering 'yes' to the 'do you want to Force the Finder to quit' dialog, hold down the command and option keys until the Finder has restarted and asks you whether you want to rebuild the desktop database. Hope that helps. Caleb Strockbine caleb@nemetschek.net Quote Link to comment
Stewart Holbrook
I've tried rebuilding the desktop but it made no difference. I have this problem on about ten Macs, any other ideas??? Guest
Stewart Holbrook: Please try doing a find of all MiniCad files (other than drawings) and removing them from your computer. Once removed, verify that the preferences for any prior MiniCad installation is removed. After this is completed, reinstall VectorWorks and rebuild the desktop. If you continue to have problems please contact Technical Support directly. ------------------ Brian O Nemetschek North America Technical Support Specialist Quote Link to comment
