DOS filenames and malfunctioning menus

We're running VW 11.51 on Win XP. All been fine until just recently. All of a sudden, VW has started truncating the filenames to DOS versions, eg "Long filename" becomes "Long~1" or similar, and then various menu items just stop working. When you try to edit the workspace, those items are shown crossed out, yet still exist in the plug-ins folder. Then you get a message saying the workspace can't be changed.

All very mysterious and frustrating. Possibly related to a file that perhaps has some bad element, as this started on another machine and only happened on mine once I opened a file that had been edited on that other machine. Have tried re-installing VW, back to normal, and then seems to fail again.

Any ideas, corrupt DLLs etc?

Its the latest quicktime V7.4 thats causing this problem,

unistall quicktime and download an older version.

yes, that fixed it, had to go back to Quicktime 7.3.1 before things worked, thanks for the tip.

I should have asked here earlier, would have saved me several hours of uninstalling and re-installing
