VW Crashes in OS9

Recommended Posts

We are working on the crashing problem at the moment. Despite the official line that 'there are no known conflicts' we have customers who are having crashes every 10/15 minutes depending on the task. This is only on G3, G4 and iMacs running OS9. We have not found the problem on G3 or Imac running 8.6. Any other information anybody can contribute would be appreciated

hmmm.....this may sound silly but, make sure the OS is the current 9.0.4 and not 9.0 . also make sure that VW is at least 8.5.1 and should be updated to 8.5.2 .

we had problems with random crashes before the OS and VW update as well.

something else that we had to do as well was delete the VW prefs and zap the p-ram.

we're running VW on all types of G3, G4, iMac, and Cube models with hardly any crashes to speak of.

Paul, this too may sound silly but verify the memory allocations. Allocations too low will produce a crash such as this on some files or actions.

As CADD Nark mentioned, check the versions of all the machines. 9.0 did have problems with video and could possibly have other unknown conflicts. Apple fixed most of them with 9.0.1 and 9.0.4 updates. We here at Nemetschek North America run G3 upgrades to G4 machines, from O/S 8.6 to 9.0.4 (and everything in-between) and do not encounter these type of crashes without memory generally being a factor.

Lastly, try running in base extensions to see if there is a conflict with hardware or another application's extension that is causing this problem. You may also wish to run a system profile on the machines that crash and those that don't so that you might find something right off that the crashing machines have that the others don't.

If you continue to have problems, please contact Technical Support and we will try to find a resolution quickly.

Hi Paul.

We now have four G4's and a PoerBook G3 running MacOS 9.0.4 and VW 8.5.2 - and no crashes. Stacks of RAM cos everyone wants to run other stuff at the same time [network fax, email and so on] and we have not suffered.

We do, however, ensure that all MacOS component updates are applied.
