Thomas Ames
Hi, Would anyone know if VW and RW will run on a DEC ALPHA with Windows 2000? I'm trying to get more (much more) memory bandwidth for rendering. Also, I'd like to find out if VW and RW are ported for Silicon Graphics? Thanks. ------------------ Thomas Ames trsystems@wir.net Quote Link to comment
Guest
Thomas, As long as there are no hardware/software conflicts and you meet all system requirements then there should be no problems. Unfortunately at this time Windows and Mac are the only platforms that the programs work with. ------------------ Brian O Nemetschek North America Technical Support Specialist Quote Link to comment
Guest
It seems that Microsoft dropped support for the DEC Alpha processor before Windows 2000 was released. There are apparently some beta versions floating around, but if you're contemplating the purchase of a new, expensive machine, you'd probably do well to consider other options. There are a number of web sites out there that discuss Windows NT on Alpha; here's one of them: http://www.alphant.com/ Caleb Strockbine caleb@nemetschek.net Quote Link to comment
Thomas Ames
Hi Caleb, Thank you for your msg. I've since learned that the brand new, loaded alpha, at a great price, may have a bad mother board. Since replacement mother boards are hard to come by, it is back to square one. We will likely build from scratch... around 900MHz with a gig of fast ram a 133MHz bus and two 30 gig drives. Quote Link to comment
