boxjoint
Most times I seem to be able to use the tape measure tool in all views (top, front, side, isometric) when I have stack layers turned on and multiple layers visible. Occasionally though, when I try to select the tool, I get a message that says "This tool requires plan view with stack layers mode". Why would it work sometimes and not others? Anyone else have this happen? Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
Go to Menu "View", scroll to "Stack Layer Options". In the ensuing dialog there is a checkbox "display 2d objects on active layer". With this option checked, not only can you display 2d objects, you can also create them (eg: use 2d tools). Quote Link to comment
boxjoint
Thanks Peter, This option must be new to VW13 as I don't see it in my version. I use stack layers all the time. Glad to see it is being improved. Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
Ah, yes. Sorry I wasn't paying very close attention to your version number. And yes, it has been improved in 2008 (AKA 13). One workaround for version 12.x.x is to create a Layer Link...And measure (or whatever) in it. Quote Link to comment
boxjoint
Peter, Thanks, I'll try the layer link thing. But I am still confused about why it will let me use the Tape Measure tool at some times and not others when in stack layers mode? Is it a bug or something I'm doing that I'm unaware of? CipesDesign
Without seeing this behavior in one of your files it's hard to say. It could very well be a bug. It wouldn't be the first (or last) one! Quote Link to comment
doughd
boxjoint, I know exactly what you're talking about. Mine does that as well occasionally. I have no idea why, though. It's very annoying, but I have to restart VW for it to quit. And I have version 2008! Must be some kinda bug. Quote Link to comment
D Wood
I didn't know about this tool - I have drawn an ordinary line in the past, then deleted it. I just tried the tape measure tool in my layer linked model, and even the 3d tool still won't click on to an object. If you say want to measure the height of a gabled wall beside a window, the tool doesn't click on to the wall edges. It seems to only click to points. With an ordinary line, you can zoom in and get it close to the edge, but sometimes you want it exact, not almost there. Does it work better in v2008?
