Turiop
Hello all! I am a very new user to VW- pardon my ignorance please. Is it possible for me to open a VW drawing- created in VW11.5 Mac- on a PC (also running VW11.5)? Many thanks! Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
Just make sure it is saved with an extension of .mcd and it should work fine. Transfer it over a network, or on a flash drive. Make sure you copy it onto the hard disk of the PC as VW will not open a locked file (like one on a CD). Pat Quote Link to comment
Ray Libby
Pat, I'm not sure what you mean by a locked file or what platform you are on, but VectorWorks on a PC will open a read only file from any drive including a CD. You are correct the extension is needed on the PC side. Quote Link to comment
Turiop
Thanks for the replies- unfortunately I am just as clueless with Macs as i am with VW (hopefully not for long though!). I had simply dragged and dropped my Mac VW file (from its default save location) onto my usbflash stick, and it wouldnt open the file on my PC. Did you mean that i had to specifically do a 'save as' and specify it should have the mcd extension first? Hope this makes some sense to you! Quote Link to comment
jan15
The file is fine as is; no need to re-save. You just have to change its name to include the mcd extension. If it's now called "floorplan", rename it as "floorplan.mcd". Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
And you can rename it either on the Mac before you send it or on the PC after it gets there. In VW 12 and later, the extension is added automatically. In VW 11 you have to remember to do it manually. Pat Quote Link to comment
