DGN import?!

Hello folks, this is our office's first time posting here (I think!) so please be gentle with me

We've been using VW12.5 and now are trying out VW2008. For the purposes of my question, I'm happy to use either program.

We received a survey set from the NYC Parks Dept. that we've been waiting for... only to find that it is all DGN files. A co-worker (and Wikipedia) says DGNs are what MicroStation files.

I don't see this fileformat listed in "import".

Any suggestions for importing these suckers?

The MicroStation user will need to export the file as a dxf or dwg file in order for you to import the file.

DWG export from Microstation is generally better we find, the files retain more "intelligence". However, it might be a good idea to get a pdf copy of what the files are supposed to look like too.

You could go to the Bentley website http://www.bentley.com/en-US/Products/Bentley+View/ and download the free Bentley View application which lets you view and print DGN files.

Is Vectorworks looking at able to import and export directly to Microstation any time in the future? My understanding from talking to some Microstation operators, is that we share some commonalities that are lost when converting through autocad to exchange files. Our city has decided to use Microstation for all its cad work, so being able to exchange directly would be terrific.

Our office is way too small to even consider using Microstation as a cad operating program.
