Beam to hold rafters

Recommended Posts

Let's say I have a house that is generally square but the entryway is indented about three feet from the neighboring walls. I want the roof to flow across those walls and not jog in at the entryway indent.

How do I put a beam across the indent and make the roof follow it?

Thanks,

Mark

There are probably several ways you could do this. Two come to mind:

1. Add a very short wall to represent the beam. You can move this short wall up so that it's flush with the top of the other walls, and then include that wall in the exterior walls you select when you're creating the roof.

2. Draw a polygon that represents the outline of the roof you want, and use the Create Roof from Polygon command. Use the Create Polygon from Exterior Walls command to get you started, and then tweak the polygon before using it to create the roof.

Hope that helps.
