C Mansell
Hi Guys, Sorry if the answer to this is staggeringly simple or if the answer has been posted somewhere else but: How do you draw corner windows joined by a corner post in Vectorworks Architect 12.5? I am trying to join two windows at the corner of a bay with a 100mm x 100mm corner post to support the roof over and seem to be tying myself in knots using the normal window symbols. I am dealing with UK construction so the wall in 300mm o/a cavity masonry with the windows sat in the center of the cavity. Anyone got any good advice? Cheers in advance. CM Quote Link to comment
Christiaan
Unfortunately VectorWorks doesn't handle this very well at all. I've found the best method, if you're not worried about the 3D aspect of it, is to use create a group of suitable polygons to represent the window and place them over the wall. If you're doing it in 3D you'll have to do a lot of manual modelling. Or, you could use OzCad's WinDoor plugin: http://www.ozcad.com.au/otherproducts/vwaddonsWD.html Quote Link to comment
C Mansell
Thanks Christiaan, I I thought that someone was going to come back with a response like yours as I assumed that if it wasn't immediately obvious as an option in Vectorworks then it would mean difficulties. Have you/anyone used the WinDoor plugin? Thanks again for your quick response. Cheers CM Quote Link to comment
gScott
CM i use windoor + it works very well. the only downside is that if you use a combination of windoor + vw architect doors + windows then "automatic" schedules are either impossible or too much work to be worthwhile. to get around this i put my data manually into door/window markers with attached records. this works ok... D Wood
I use WinDoor and it works extremely well, to the point that I don't use the VW tools at all. You have many more choices, bay windows are a speciality, and you can duplicate windows and doors really easily. Worth every penny/cent. Quote Link to comment
billtheia
I have been looking at WinDoor and have a few questions. Is WinDoor appropriate for use in the US? Are the window types/sections similar to those generated with the VW PIO? Do the windows generated look different than the PIO windows - would I be able to tell if I placed them next to each other in the same wall? If I use only WinDoor (and not VW PIO,) can I still generate window and door schedules? Are there things that I can do with the VW PIO that I can't do with WinDoor? And last, will WinDoor work with VW2008? Quote Link to comment

gScott
bill the only thing i still use the VW door tool for is the over-head garage door. windoor is very flexible so you can make things look exactly the same as the VW tool, and it allows you to save up to 10 default styles. what it also doesn't do: splayed reveals, closed cavities, to achieve these i make symbols + tack them either side of the opening Quote Link to comment
