Yellowstone Construction
Does anyone have a tip on doing tall walls on a floor plan with windows and doors. My problem is putting in the doors with a large amount of windows above. The windows above block out the doors below. If I choose not to show the windows class, I get blank spaces that plot out the wall completely. So I get a wall with large blocks of missing information. Quote Link to comment
islandmon
Trick > set the windows into the wall well offset from the doors but at the correct height. Then using the OIP re-position each window to the correct alignment above the doors. Quote Link to comment
panthony
Mike, There are two ways to work around the window stacking issue. First one is to set the object stacking order with Modify->Send->Send to Front or Send to Back command. Second (and the one I use) is to set up a seperate class for stacked openings (which in many cases include vents) so that you can turn off the class for plan view presentation. Yellowstone Construction
Panthony I tried separate classes and when I turn them off they leave a blank opening in the wall. So in a tall wall with multiple openings @ multiple heights, the wall in plan view looks like a bunch of irregular dashes. Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
Try creating a symbol. Use the PIO to create the 3D components you want and then in a 3D view convert them to a group. In Top/Plan View draw the 2D representation you want. Select both the 2D and the 3D components and create the symbol. If you aren't familiar with the hybrid symbol protocol look at the manual first. There is also a tip on creating a stacked window unit symbol here: http://architoshforums.forest.net/showthread.php?t=1621 Quote Link to comment
Graphite Studios
I use a similar technique to panthony. I put the upper windows in a class I make such as "clerestory" and this allows me to control the visibility for the plan view. The walls at the "plan level" appear solid just as I want them to. Hope this helps! Patrick Quote Link to comment
Yellowstone Construction
I have the upper windows in a class called "clerestory" but when deselected there is a hole in the wall in plan view. In order to get the wall back I have to eliminate the window. Otherwise the original wall looks like a bunch of broken walls. Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
Create a hybrid symbol as I have described above with the insertion option set to no break. For the 2D part insert the 2D graphics you want - a wall type representation with perhaps some dotted lines to show that there is a clerestory window over. Quote Link to comment
