Hooprulz
Hi, Is there a way to export a dxf file for the entire job or do you have to convert each layer separately? I have to pass my architectural set onto an engineer so that he can work on it and this would be a time saver. Thanks, Daniel Quote Link to comment
quigley
You can export everything in one go but if you use multiple layers and classes your poor old AC user will be in trouble as AC has only layers. At export time you can choose to export VW classes or layers to map to AC layers, the default is classes so if you do this for all layers you can see the potential problems at the AC end. So yes one layer at a time would be sensible, or you to work group reference in the different layers into a new file and export those. If you are a Design serier user you can also export PDF as layers and classes - this would be a good thing to do anyway to accompany the CAD data as it lets the other user see what they should be getting. mike m oz
If you are using Sheet Layers you can export all of the sheets to DWG in one go. What the recipient gets is the Sheet Layers as Paperspace Viewports. On the Model Layer they will get a Block for each Sheet Layer stacked one on top of each other. Each Block will be comprised of the Design Layers which made up that Sheet Layer. For the recipient to make use of the DWG drawing they will have to first move each of these blocks so they are spaced out sensibly in their model space and then explode them. This confuses the hell out of the recipients and in reality very few of them are prepared to put in the effort required to make the drawings useable to themselves. Particularly when they are likely to have to repeat the process next time you issue the drawings to them. Its usually easier and less risky to just spend the time exporting each drawing by itself. What is needed is the ability to batch export the Sheet Layers to individual files instead of one single file. This would make both the sender and the recipient happy. Quote Link to comment
Hooprulz
and so it goes...I'll stick to the "one layer at a time" method. Thanks for your input...this forum rocks! Quote Link to comment
