2D reshape tool niggle

Has the following shortcoming in the 2D reshape tool's operation been noted before - that marquee selection of several handles is de-activated if the cursor is over another object (which isn't active) ?

You have to locate the cursor over a completely "empty" part of the drawing, then drag to form the selection marquee.

Is this something others have encountered and wondered about ?

Who knows maybe VW 2008 deals w this. Hope so.

Thats a first for me - never even noticed that before. Only applies if you select a filled object or the edge of an unfilled object or a curve.....bug? Maybe not, maybe a feature!

The fact the marquee selection of object handles using 2D reshape is inoperable when the cursor is over another object is a definite minus affecting the user's capacity to make a selection.

How often is the reshape tool surrounded by other objects ? All the time. The other objects define the scope to the reshape. So to my way of thinking, this aspect of the 2D reshape tool's functionality is a defect.

Using Groups >Edit Groups with Pref>"Show Others while in Groups" is one easy work around.

Also, using Hybrid Symbols makes editing of persistent objects a snap.

You are correct, this is the behavior of 2d reshape, and in fact it is true of all "select and drag" operations. Some have asked that with objects selected VW ignore other objects in the completion of certain operations, perhaps with the use of a constraint key. I think this is a great suggestion, but in the meantime isolating your objects using groups according to Islandmon's suggestion is the way to go.
