harrysnewbizzare
Is there a way to get thumbnail previews in windows explorer for vectorworks files? Quote Link to comment
islandmon
Keeping in mind that VW files are 'executables' whereas Explore previews are 'images' of one sort or other. What is it that you are trying to accomplish ? Quote Link to comment
drawwhat?
ya, sure would like that feature on Mac and Widoz too! Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Robert Anderson Posted August 21, 2007 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted August 21, 2007 This raises an interesting question, which is perhaps what Islandmon was intending to ask. Since CAD/BIM/Modeling programs are inherently "multi-view", which view is it you would capture to the preview? -The last view (screenshot) saved? -The first/last/designated sheet layer (or saved view)? -or something else? G_Hannigan
I think Autocad uses the last saved view for the preview pane when you use File>Open. George Quote Link to comment
islandmon
You can get around this conundrum by doing a Screen Capture ( or image export ) of the part of the file you feel best represents it. Then save that image to the same location as the VW file ....using a similar name ending with the image extension, ie. ".png" Quote Link to comment
harrysnewbizzare
well, I have Photoshop file thumbnails and then can also be many layers, they use the last saved view. Having to open up files if you are not sure of the content is a pain and time consuming, as would be having to save seperate png of every vworks file just to get a thumbnail preview in explorer. islandmon
This is an excellent "WishList" request. Quote Link to comment
Jershaun
Hi I would also like to see this feature added. Last view on-screen before saving would be acceptable (similar to AC). This would be helpful when opening files from the "open" dialogue box. Thanks, Shaun Quote Link to comment
drawwhat?
I agree,, the last thing I saw as I saved/closed the drawing. Quote Link to comment
jamesmise
Xcoolexplorer is a freeware program that lets you preview many other types of CAD files. Alas Vectorworks isn't one of them. I'm reluctant to convert all of my 3d .dwg objects to Vectorworks because it is so much easier to browse them using Xcoolexplorer and then import them when needed. Maybe someone will write something similar for .mcd files. Quote Link to comment
jamesmise
In VW 2010 you can choose how thumbnails are shown in the resource browser. You can choose the view of each symbol and the rendering mdoe. So you can browse all of the different chairs you have, for example, and pick the one you like. Quote Link to comment
lgoodkind
2023 and we still don't have a last saved thumbnail in explorer? Quote Link to comment
