Import to Illustrator

Hi,

How can I export a vectorworks drawing to illustrator? while getting all the line weights correct? -(if thats possible)

Export to a dxf or dwg file.

I've tried dxf and dwg export from VW and import to AI, but it doesn't work. So, how about when the VW objects are viewed in perspective and rendered hidden line, then what's the export from VW?

Let's be specific about what is and is not working. That will help narrow down where the issue occurs.

A hidden line rendering isn't available in another program unless they to offer a hidden line rendering of 3D objects.

You can however, use the convert copy to polys command and use the "hidden line" rendering option when prompted. That will give you a network of 2D polygonal shapes.

Katie, I tried this again using your suggestion. What's not working is that when imported to AI, there's a lot of extra lines that I think are all the separate polygons that make up the shapes. It's a real mess!

I save as .eps and open in Illustrator.

You may want to try the PDF route. From Vectorworks, print to pdf (if your on a Mac use print preview and select pdf), then open the pdf with illustrator and adjust line weights as needed using the "select same stroke weight" command. I did it on my pc using Acrobat Distiller and it works fine.
