ErichR
I imported an ACAD drawing, worked on it in VWA 12.5.1, XP, and exported back to ACAD. Some of the text endeed up with the letters as rectangles (in ACAD). Some of the text, not all of it, changed to 'Romantic' font (in VWA). Likewise, in the VWA drawing, the font, which had originated in ACAD, can be changed to san serif, but some of the fonts, like Times New Roman, end up with the letters as rectangles, not text. MikeC
If you are gong to move between the two the best thing you can do is start with a font that is common to both. Quote Link to comment
ErichR
The drawing was started in ACAD and not by me. Quote Link to comment
Guest
It's likely the font used in the AutoCad file, by that user contains fonts that are either exclusive to AutoCAD (.shx fonts) or you do not have them on your computer. SHX fonts are not available for use in programs outside of AutoCAD. Likewise, if a file has a text using a specific font that you do not have, a font you do have will be substituted during the import process. When importing, you should get a popup box asking you to map fonts to another font - if it's the first time a font is being used. This is where you can choose how to map the font to one of your fonts. In addition, once the file is imported, you can change the font map by going to VectorWorks preferences (it might be under Doc prefs) and looking for a FONT or FONT MAPPING button. Here you can adjust various font mappings setup within VectorWorks. You can review more information on this subject by searching for "Font Mapping" either in the online help system or in the User's Guide. Edited May 7, 2007 by Katie Quote Link to comment
ErichR
The problem is there is text in a VW file that can't be changed to a different font. It appears in 'Romantic'. Can't be changed to Arial or Times New Roman, for example. Edited May 10, 2007 by ErichR Quote Link to comment
Guest
If you choose the text and go to the Text menu, "romantic" is checkmarked? And you can't change it to something else? Have you made sure class / layer options are permitting you to do so? Quote Link to comment
ErichR
Romantic is checked in the Text menu. It can be changed to Simplex, or Sans Serif. Otherwise all you get are rectangles instead of text letters. I'm not aware of any text variables in class or layer permissions/options. Quote Link to comment
Guest
What font are you choosing? Quote Link to comment
ErichR
Katie, Chose Times New Roman or Arial. I've emailed the text in a drawing file. Quote Link to comment
