Object Info inspector: "Move" default to "Vertex Only"

When I want to edit a polygon, I want to move the vertices, not the entire object. There are already other ways to move the entire object, including the position entries above. I want a preference to set such that Move always comes up as Vertex Only, not Entire Object

Can someone explain a little more about the vertex only and entire object modes? Does it have anything to do with the Move command (Modify > Move > Move...)?

There are controls to manipulate individual verticies (or, as observed, less usefully, the entire object)

Ah, I've worked it out now, thanks. Yes, it does seem redundant when when have the Move command (Modify > Move > Move...). Yet another poor default setting decision.
