2d reshape tool

I find the 2d reshape tool frustrating.

e.g.

I select the objects I want to reshape, I select the tool & start to drag a marquee but if I start the drag over another object this one is selected & the ones I want to reshape are deselected. The only way I have found to overcome this is to start the drag in a clear part of the drawing. Is this correct or am I doing something wrong?

The tool isn't smart enough to know when you want to select something new and when you want to keep working with what you've already selected. You describe exactly how I think it should work.

You might try grouping the objects you want work on, then double-click on the group.

Note that if you press the Option Key, the cursor changes to a lasso cursor, which allows a more flexible selection of objects to be stretched.
