Guest
You can't insert a dormer in a roof face object, only a roof object. The way around this is to cut a hole out of the roof face where the walls/window would go. Then construct the walls and place the window in the newly created walls. You can then create a dormer roof by drawing a polygon and using "create roof" or the roof face command if the roof is a simple shed roof. Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
I like to use walls and another (set of) roof face(s). Seems to give me more control. You can use the "fit walls to roof" command to trim the bottom of your walls to the roof below if you need. But be sure that the walls to be fit are on a different layer from the geometry to which they will be fit. Quote Link to comment
panthony
Build your dormers as they would be done in the field and place a roof using the roof plane tool...just like Pete C. has suggested above. You will need to play with the roof planes to get them correct but this will give you the best results. Pete A. Quote Link to comment
Peter Eichel
Create a roof object, half of which reflects the roof face you need, add your dormer as you normally would to a roof object (let VW's do the work) and then ungroup the roof. Delete the roof face you don't need and you should have it. Quote Link to comment
