G_Hannigan
Can you import into sketchup? I think mjw is asking if you can go the other way: from VW to Sketchup. Quote Link to comment
Guest
Ah ha! To take a VW model into VW the document will need to be exported to a file format compatible with the SketchUp import options. I know they can import DXF/DWG files, and probably IGES and/or 3DS. Quote Link to comment
PeterT
In VectorWorks, "Export DWG". In Sketchup, Import "ACAD Files (*.dwg, *.dxf)" Tips: 1. Before the Export in Vectorworks, put the model in " Top View". This way the model will come in to SketchUp on axis. 2. In the SketchUp Import window, before import, choose "ACAD Files (*.dwg, *.dxf)" in the pulldown menu, then click the "Options" button and make sure the Geometry checkbox is checked for "Merge Coplaner Surfaces". Otherwise the model will come in with lots of triangulated plane surfaces. Quote Link to comment
michael john williams
I am trying the other way round and thanks for your help - I will give it a go! Quote Link to comment
Eoin R
We have the found the best way to import into Skethup is as follows: Set the model up in Stack Layers view with all layers visible and with OpenGL render setting. Then export 3DS file. You can then import the 3DS file into sketchup. Hope that helps. John Ryan - CPR Architects VW12.5.1 OSX 10.4.8 Quote Link to comment
Guest
I suspect, in most cases a 3DS file will provide more appropriate and usable 3D data than the dwg file will. A 3DS file is 3D only, so the format handles 3D models with fewer technicalities. Edited March 9, 2007 by Katie Quote Link to comment
