lee jubas
Will 3.0 ghz 2-dual core processors and 2.0gb ram, and 250 gb hardrive, etc..make a huge speed difference in rendering? From the 4 main parameters of a new Mac, processor speed, ram memory, hardrive space, and graphics card, what affects my efficiency and speed the most? I'm now on a Powermac G4 with 1.0 ghz processor and 1.75 gb ram. Thanks. Quote Link to comment
Michael_Eschenbach
drastically, I was running a 2.5 ghz dual processor pawermac G5. I recently got an intel chip 2.16ghz, 24" imac, and the speed increase is quite noticable across the board. Quote Link to comment

MiesKate
When I upgraded from a single processor G5 tower to an Intel iMac (Core Duo), I tested some basic Renderworks models on both machines (same models, same rendering parameters). The rendering time on the iMac was about 1/5 of the G5's time. That upgrade would have made financial sense if the iMac cost twice as much as it actually did. Its still hard to get off-center and spend the money sometimes, though. Good luck. Quote Link to comment
fsung
From the 4 main parameters of a new Mac, processor speed, ram memory, hardrive space, and graphics card, what affects my efficiency and speed the most? Definitely the CPU. OpenGL rendering is the only rendering mode that is dependent on the graphics card; all other rendering modes are handled by the CPU, therefore, faster CPU = faster renders. lee jubas
And to think what I will notice because I'm now on a power PC G4! I'm typically a 3 to 4 year person on each computer. How would you compare the G5 intel 2.16 ghz on the Imac 24" to, say, me getting a 3.0 ghz (2) dual core tower with separate 30" monitor? Quote Link to comment
LarryAZ
I just got a 2 Gig Mac Book and even with standard 1 gig of ram it is over 7 time faster than my G4 iMac for FQ Render. Quote Link to comment
