Mia Nelson
Is is possible to drape a photo over a DTM? Even free Google Earth can do this - I gotta believe I can do it too, right? Quote Link to comment
propstuff
Probably not simply: it would mean a Texture Bed which I've not had much luck with, but if you use the Drape Surface command to make a NURBS surface of the DTM it should be a fairly "straightforward" exercise to map the photo as a Renderworks Texture. It will be distorted, of course, because the photo is flat and the terrain is not, but maybe OK. N. Edited February 17, 2007 by propstuff Quote Link to comment
Petri
Is is possible to drape a photo over a DTM? Even free Google Earth can do this - I gotta believe I can do it too, right? Maybe, maybe not. Can the free Google Earth give you exact 3D-coordinates of every pixel? I gotta belive it can... Quote Link to comment
Mia Nelson
I want to use my own orthophoto and contours, which are a lot better than Google Earth's... So, I need to first make a NURBS of the DTM that's the same size as the orthophoto, and then make a texture out of the ortho? Quote Link to comment
propstuff
So, I need to first make a NURBS of the DTM Yes. that's fairly simple with Drape Surface that's the same size as the orthophoto, No, it will be the size of the DTM and then make a texture out of the ortho? Yes, then you map the texture size to the Surface. N. Quote Link to comment
Mia Nelson
How do I make sure the orthophoto winds up in exactly the right place? Quote Link to comment
propstuff
Do you know how to Map Textures? Quote Link to comment

Mia Nelson
No, is that what I need to learn, texture mapping? I see it in the manual, but so far I haven't had to do it. If I know that it will work, I will invest the time and try to figure it out. Thanks for the tips! Quote Link to comment
Petri
Mia, It is a workaround. One should be able to bring in a GeoTIFF and just tell it to become the surface of the DTM. This is, AFAK, not the case. Quote Link to comment
Mia Nelson
Do I need to make sure the GeoTiff is exactly the same size as the DTM, if I want them to line up properly? Quote Link to comment
