Ability to group Layers/Sheet Layers like classes

We want to use a file template with a large number of Layers and Sheet Layers preconfigured. The problem is that it becomes unmanageable, in that when you click on the Layer dropdown menu you're presented with a huge linear list of Layers and Sheet Layers, even to the point of not having them all on the screen. This is especially problematic when the project is small or just starting out.

To deal with this issue what about having the ability to group Layers, as classes are?

The sorts of groupings we might use, for example, would be along the lines of:

- General arrangement plans

- Furniture layout plans

- M&E layout plans

- Floors

- Roofs

The following wishlist items would probably apply equally to the above wish too:

Class structure: selectable sub-group menu

The workaround is to use workgroup referencing so that each drawing type is in a separate file. This could also be combined to "discipline separation" of the design.

HOWEVER, to be able to keep track of drawings and their numbers, it is much better to have only one file for "official" output than doing the exact reverse.

So, I think we really need the hierarchical layer names. Or layer folders, whatever.

AutoCAD has the ability to assign layer names to alias's. I work on both apps, and this feature works really well. You can choose to view only the layers assigned to the alias you select. It could work like setting a Sheet, and when you open the Class or Layer dialog box you ONLY see the Classes and Layers appropriate to that "Sheet".

Looks like a wishlist application!
