Arbor
Hi, I am using VW 12.0.0 Design Series. I recently started trying house designs, and found that I can't seem to select different layers at the same time. I need to go to the layer that the object I want to select is in, and If I want to do something to more than one layer at once, it's impossible. Any ideas? Thanks, Arbor Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
Yes. That's the way VW's layer work. There is a LAYER OPTION called Show,Snap, Modify others that will allow you to select, copy, move, etc. across layers, but this sort of defeats the purpose (and power) of the whole layer paradigm in VW's. You might consider using CLASSES along with layers. This gives you lots of control over attributes and visibilities, and because layers and classes can be "cross-matrixed" (my term) there is a great deal of power available there. If you are ever interested in formal training, I am in Oregon (Ashland) and offer private or semi-private instruction... Edited January 15, 2007 by CipesDesign Quote Link to comment
Arbor
Thanks, I did try that before, and it didn't work...I knew that's what I wanted, but it didn't work. Now it works fine. I guess I should have restarted VW before posting...Thanks anyway. Quote Link to comment
Arbor
Hi, Now it's doing it again...and restarting VW doesn't help. I can't select more than one layer, even when it's on Show/snap/modify others. Any ideas? I am on a Mac by the way. Arbor Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
Two possibilities: - That all of your layers are not in the same View orientation. eg. that the active layer is in a 3D view whilst the rest are in a Top/Plan View, or vice versa. They must be in the same View orientation for SNMO to work - If you are using Saved Views the Layer Options and/or Class Options aren't being reset each time you invoke a view. You can edit the Saved View if needed to change this. Quote Link to comment
Arbor
Nope. Neither one of those. Quote Link to comment
Guest
The layers have to be at the same scale, too. Both have to be set to a Top/Plan view. Also check the class options to see if it's related to class visibility/options. Quote Link to comment
Arbor
OK, thanks, it doesn't appear to be any of those...but I downloaded 12.5.1 last night, and it works fine now, whether it will stay that way I don't know. Issue solved for now though. Quote Link to comment
Jonathan Pickup
Arbor, I'm curious why you need to regularly select stuff on more than one layer. Maybe your concept of using layers and classes needs looking at. If you can have the information on two classes instead of 2 layers you will find it easier. Quote Link to comment
