The plant reference database.... maybe I missed something along the way.

Do you want to be able to create plant definitions based on data in an excel file?

I just want to add a mass of plants to my plant reference file using excel... I WILL take up your offer and send you over my list, but I need to do a little work on it first so please bear with me.

As for adding plant definitions (i.e symbols connected with plants from the database, picking up height and spread attributes etc) that would be lovely - but I'm just interested in enhancing my plant reference database. I'll be in touch on email over the next few days.

Thanks for your offer.

It's been interesting to read people's comments on this topic. We're just moving to VW Landmark from another package for most of our work, and some of the things that attracted us to it were the specialised landscape tools including the plant tool and the plant database. We are fortunate that we do in fact have a fairly good localised plant database developed by OzCAD available for our use.

As I explore further you'll probably find me with more and more to say on these forums. In relation to this discussion though I am very frustrated that when creating plant definitions, the class definitions of the symbol ARE lost completely - it would be much more useful to keep these, specially from the aspect of being able to use the same drawing to produce both "pretty" coloured concept drawings and BW documentation drawings simply by switching the visibility of a class. It's also a major hassle not being able to create elements with a transparency.

Our solution is a bit different. We created a master file with our own plant symbols and data tags, and just copy those from the master file to new planting plans. We can add whatever plants we want, and the ground covers are set up as patterns.

The nice thing is that since we designed everything, our plant legends can sort everything, count it and update it automatically if we change anything on a planting plan.

So, the result is that I've never really gotten into the Landmark plant section.
