Translucent Colors for 3D Objects in Wireframe

I design furniture and I'd love to easily see what is what in wireframe.

Create a viewport, duplicate it in place. Render one and leave the other in wireframe. Use some glass texture on the rendered model for the translucent effect.

I would agree, a light washof the class color would help, when just doing a quick fly-over.
