Punching holes

Hey Everyone

I have a model that is tapered in the middle and hollow on the inside. Kind of like the neck of vase. I want to punch holes through the skin so light can spill in and out of this shape but when I try to subtract a solid from this vase shape it punches through no problem but turns my vase shape into a cylinder? Can I do what I am trying or have I bumped the cieling. Thank you for any help

I made a shape did a sweep and created my swans vase neck shape.

Archoncad ... I bow to your skills smile.gif

What is a transparancy map, how do I use it and is it impossible to do it the way I am trying. That is COOL! I am actually designing a tower for a childrens museum and I want colored transparant apertures.

Boriqua, I tried it with your file and encountered the same problem. It seems to me that the problem comes from your initial sweep shape being made up of two unclosed polygons. What happens is the polygons closes to complete the solid shape resulting in your cylinder. If you edit your 2D shapes so that they will compose into a single polygon the solid subtraction will works fine.
