willofmaine
When I copy Spaces from one file and paste them in another, they are placed in a non-current, non-relevant class, and I can't change them to the class that they should be in. Any suggestions? Thanks! Quote Link to comment
willofmaine
I guess I figured it out. I had "Auto-Classing" enabled, so it was pasting the spaces into a VW created "Areas" class, though I'd think one would still be able to move the spaces to another class once they're pasted... cbaarch
try the following create a group of the spaces then paste in the second file - and ungroup the spaces should then go to or, create classes found in the first file. Quote Link to comment
willofmaine
Thanks, I'll try that. But my bigger question has now become... what is "Auto-Classing"? With or without it enabled, things like dimensions still automatically go to the Dimensions layer... Quote Link to comment
G_Hannigan
From the VW Help File: "Certain plug-in objects and symbols have specific default classes, which coordinate with the Layermap worksheet class name standards. The plug-in objects listed here are automatically classed when inserted into a file set up to use auto-classing (when Enable Auto-classing is selected in the Standard Naming dialog box); they are set to default class when inserted if the file has not been set up." Dimensions, also from the Help File: "Every new drawing in VectorWorks automatically has two classes: Dimension and None. Any dimensions created are assigned, by default, to the Dimension class (this is a preference setting that can be changed; see Dimension Preferences)." George Quote Link to comment
willofmaine
Ah, so dimensions are unique, and are not controlled by Auto-classing. And walls are likewise controlled by their insertion options, rather than Auto-classing. So it's just PIOs like windows, and spaces of course, that are controlled by Auto-classing. And having just done a little experiment, I see that for windows, as with spaces, when they're pasted into a file with Auto-classing enabled, sure enough, they go to the Windows class, and their class can't be changed unless "Enable Auto-classing" is unchecked. Thanks everyone! -Will Quote Link to comment
