carletonc
I am a bit old fashioned and prefer to draw details and sections without being in a specific section viewport or elevation view. Thus, the main question I have is, is it possible to take the geometry of say a open web steel joist, drawn from the detailing tool set, and convert that into a 2 dimensional object that I can use in a basic drafting mode? Jonathan Pickup
you could change to the view that you want and then use the command: Modify > Convert > Convert to Lines... Quote Link to comment
propstuff
Convert to lines turns curves into a bazillion little line segments. :-( Use Cmd K to Convert to Group. This will give you either the original polyline or a Symbol. Cmd K will decompose the symbol into its components. cheers Quote Link to comment
islandmon
Most efficient technique: edit > 3D Symbol >Top> place a 2d Rect with center line over the Joist>add 2d Loci>Group > assign Class to components( S-JST-16k3 )>exit. Using this technique you can create a single Hybrid Symbol instance for each Joist Type 8K1,10K1, , etc . Then duplicate >edit 2d & 3d>PIO>resize to required length(s). Fast & efficient ...
